Perform general ledger accounting functions including outgoing wires, general ledger adjustments, monthly balancing of accounts, and reconciliation of complex bank statements. Prepare periodic IRS reporting and reconcile W-2 statements. Monitor, review, balance, and approve accounts receivable subsidiary system. Monitor and maintain grant files for audit access. Prepare year-end reports for auditors and the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report.
Gather and analyze data and resolve accounts receivable disputes and problems. Prepare adjustments to the general ledger monthly. Prepare, send and record outgoing wires including payroll taxes and deductions, bond payments, and insurance funds in compliance with established standards and deadlines. Balance various general ledger accounts, maintain year-end records of accounts, and reconcile backup documents. Monitor, review, and balance accounts receivable subsidiary system, and prepare year-end records of accounts receivable. Monitor collection process and make write-off decisions on miscellaneous accounts receivable. Review accounts receivable invoices for account number accuracy and for correct customer billing information and dollar amounts. Prepare reports for State Highway Fund and Police Department seizures. Apply to appropriate accounts and calculate interest. Prepare financial statements and statistical tables for Comprehensive Annual Financial Report. Audit records for accuracy and conformance to the City’s financial policies. Prepare clear and comprehensive statistical reports; and financial reports and statements using complex cost, financial, and statistical data. Maintain the capital asset subsidiary system monthly and prepare year end worksheets and adjustments for the capital asset system. Monitor, maintain, and process payments for assigned general ledger accounts. Perform payment processing, balancing, reconciling, and adjusting entries for assigned accounts. Monitor, review, and correct cash receipt system transactions. Reconcile, and balance payroll liability accounts and payroll system component. Monitor, maintain, and audit tax payable accounts. Reconcile complex bank statements for general operating account and various other assigned accounts and prepare needed adjusted journal entries. Research and correct discrepancies. Verify and balance employee deductions and ensure payment of premiums for various employee benefit insurance programs. Prepare and process Federal and State tax withholding transfers in compliance with applicable tax laws and time constraints. Reconcile all W-2 statements. Prepare quarterly and year-end IRS reporting. Run reports from the bank system for return checks and follow up as needed with customers. Performs essential duties and additional tasks in a manner which enhances City Attributes.
Work is primarily performed in a standard office environment and requires sitting up to 7 hours daily. Work requires vision sufficient to review records and enter data. Visual and physical capabilities to work on computers and associated equipment for prolonged periods of time. The work includes frequent verbal communication and cooperation with others, and ability to work alone. Work requires the ability to perform duties under time constraints. Work courteously and professionally with citizens and fellow workers.
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in accounting, business administration, or related field and one year or more of professional level accounting experience. Special Qualifications: Possession of a valid Colorado Driver’s License.
