ICF has a new and exciting career opportunity! We are seeking an Environmental Exposure Scientist to work in our Health Science Practice!

A multidisciplinary group of 90+ science professionals, our Health Sciences Team provides toxicology, hazard assessment, epidemiology, risk assessment, exposure assessment, environmental modeling, and related support services that address the full spectrum of potentially hazardous agents, including chemicals and microbes. We specialize in identifying, quantifying, and documenting the effects of environmental pollutants, such as metals, pesticides, and volatile organic compounds, on human health and the environment.

As an Environmental Exposure Scientist your work will support federal agencies (such as U.S. EPA and NIEHS), state agencies, and private sector clients in developing reports that assess the human health impacts of pollutants. Specific activities will include quantitative analysis, qualitative systematic review activities, and task management. You will contribute to the development of innovative, accurate, timely, and high-quality products and services, typically working on multiple projects with all levels of staff and will interact with experts and clients in the field.

The position can be REMOTE, although preference is for a candidate to be located in either Fairfax, VA, or Durham, NC.

What you will do:

  • Provide subject matter contributions in the areas of exposure assessment, including exposure model selection, exposure model inputs, exposure model implementation and evaluations, qualitative analysis, and overall synthesis.

  • Have a working knowledge of scripting (e.g., python) and data management (e.g., experience with databases and/or systematic review software) to assist in exposure systematic review reference tracking.

  • Synthesize findings into written reports and scientific articles.

  • Provide task management for tasks involving quantitative analyses, qualitative evaluations, and systematic literature reviews. Manage the day-to-day work associated with projects, including staffing, scheduling, communication, technical guidance, and quality assurance.

  • Mentor early-career exposure scientists.

  • Contribute to proposal and business development efforts, including but not limited to technical proposal writing.

What you will need to have:

  • Ph.D. in environmental science, environmental engineering, chemistry, or related environmental health science (epidemiology, toxicology) with 2+ years of experience of professional experience.

  • Previous experience with quantitative and qualitative environmental exposure analysis; experience with systematic review is preferred.

  • Experience as a task manager.

  • Strong quantitative research skills.

  • Experience with government programs (preferably U.S. EPA or NIEHS)
