                         Master ASE Equip Tech I:   $25.92 - $28.80/hour

                         Master ASE Equip Tech II:  $28.04 - $31.16/hour

Regular Full-time with Benefits
M-F 7:30am – 4:00pm, OT as required

 

 

Definition:

This position is flexibly filled based on the skill level of the successful candidate.  For Equip Tech II, Master ASE I, and Master ASE II: Under the direct supervision provided by the Fleet Operations Supervisor or Fleet Manager, perform minor and major diagnosis and repairs to automobiles; trucks; and construction equipment; and vehicles specific to municipal operations including work on gasoline, diesel, small engines, electrical, aerial, and hydraulic equipment.  For Master ASE I: This level has received and must maintain designation as a Master ASE Certified Technician in either light duty or heavy duty truck. This level would be promoted from the Equipment Technician II position. For Master ASE II: This level has received and must maintain designation of two Master ASE Certifications. Additionally this position must show the ability to attain some EVT certifications within one year. This level is promoted from the Master ASE Equipment Technician I position.

 

Principal Duties:

For Equip Tech II, Master ASE I, and Master ASE II: Perform basic drivability diagnoses of automotive and large truck computerized engines, transmissions, and electrical systems.  Inspect, diagnose, locate, and repair mechanical problems on a variety of City owned gasoline and diesel powered automobiles, trucks, specialty municipal equipment, and construction equipment.  Diagnose and repair gasoline and diesel engines, transmissions, drive lines, rear ends, suspension systems, front ends, steering, and exhaust systems.  Diagnose and repair hydraulics, hydrostatics, electrical systems, computerized ignition systems, and air conditioning systems.  Mount, dismount, and balance wheels and tires.  Perform minor and major welding fabrication of equipment, vehicles, and tools.  Perform minor and major preventive maintenance services.  Repair and overhaul all brake systems.  Tune up engines, replace ignition parts, and clean and adjust carburetors.  Replace or repair faulty parts including wheel bearings, clutches, oil seals, shock absorbers, exhaust systems, steering mechanisms, and related parts and equipment.  Perform State of Colorado emission and DOT inspections.  Perform field or shop inspections of heavy, medium, and light equipment to determine and make necessary repairs and estimate cost of repairs.  Repair and install radios and light bars to emergency vehicles.  Performs essential duties and additional tasks in a manner which enhances City Attributes.  For Master ASE Equip Tech I & II:  Perform basic and advanced drivability diagnoses of automotive and large truck computerized engines, transmissions, and electrical systems.  Diagnose and repair gasoline and diesel engines, transmissions, drive lines, rear ends, suspension systems, front ends, steering, and exhaust systems. Perform diagnosis and repairs to fuel injection systems.  Teach, mentor and share technical skills and ability with other staff. Collaborate and reason with other staff and supervisors to diagnose and determine repair solutions.

Working Environment:

Work requires physical and visual capabilities to operate passenger vehicles, trucks, and motorized equipment to operate and/or drive all City owned vehicles and equipment. Primary work is performed in shop environment, with occasional fieldwork in all temperature and weather extremes. Environment includes exposure to dust, grease, oils, solvents, fumes and gases, and hazardous waste and materials associated with repairing trash trucks. Requires heavy lifting and carrying (50 lbs. and over); pulling, pushing, stooping, reaching with both hands; walking, standing for long periods, crawling, working on back, bending, kneeling, climbing, and climbing on ladders. Requires basic communication skills to complete daily activities and interact with co-workers and other department employees, requires constant work around moving parts and machinery, and ability to enter data on the fleet computer and database system related to repairs, maintenance, and labor. The City provides all technician tools, shop tools, uniforms, safety boots, eye protection, hearing protection and any other personal protective equipment required.

Qualifications:

Equipment Technician II:  Any combination of education and experience equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade, three years of progressive practical employment experience, plus technical training and advanced practical experience in the maintenance and repair of both diesel and gas powered equipment.  Equip Tech II Special Requirements:  Possession of a valid Colorado Commercial Driver’s License with Class “A” certification, Colorado state license necessary to conduct diesel and vehicle emission control tests, and a CFC Certificate.  ASE mechanic certifications in heavy truck T1 – T6 or light duty A1-A8, within 1½ years of hire date, and continuing education and training in specialized areas such as computer controls, electronics, hydraulics, etc.  Completion of HAZMAT and in-house safety training as required. 

Master ASE Equip Tech I & II:  Any combination of education and experience equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade, three to five years of progressive practical employment experience, plus technical training and advanced practical experience in the maintenance and repair of both diesel and gas powered equipment. 

Master ASE Equip Tech I Special Requirements:  Possession of a valid Colorado Commercial Driver’s License with Class “A” certification, Colorado state license necessary to conduct diesel and vehicle emission control tests, and a CFC Certificate.  Completion of all requirements  in order to be certified as an ASE Master Mechanic in heavy truck T1 – T6 or light duty A1-A8, and continuing education and training in specialized areas such as computer controls, electronics, hydraulics, etc.  Completion of HAZMAT and in-house safety training as required. 

Master ASE Equip Tech II Special Requirements:   Possession of a valid Colorado Commercial Driver’s License with Class “A” certification, Colorado state license necessary to conduct diesel and vehicle emission control tests, and a CFC Certificate.  Possession of two ASE Master Certifications and the ability to attain some EVT certifications within one year. Continuing education and training in specialized areas such as computer controls, electronics, hydraulics, etc.  Completion of HAZMAT and in-house safety training as required.
