Description

The Logistics Operations Specialist is responsible for continuous improvement of logistics service. The logistics operations specialist must resolve and ensure the appropriate corrective actions are in place to improve service and cost to our external customer. This includes carrier selection and service levels across multiple business units. The logistics operations Specialist is responsible to act proactively, using leading indicators to improve logistics service to prevent JM customer complaints. The Specialist's specific tasks include: taking action in systematic business rules and carrier commitments established to improve service while balancing cost. , the use of the corporate Transportation Management System (TMS) for outbound and carrier selection based on cost, service, and level of commitment; determine equipment and service level requirements for multiple plant locations across business units and manage carrier selection and performance to meet cost and service expectations; maintain continuous contact and provide assistance and improve service to customer service groups, sales and marketing personnel, plant purchasing, and plant shipping personnel; and secure and coordinate uninterrupted transportation services and materials flow to and from North American markets. Your Day-to-Day: * Utilize the corporate Transportation Management System for carrier selection on outbound and inbound shipments from multiple plant locations across all business units. * Responsible for continuous improvement of logistics service to include root cause and corrective action on service failures and is responsible for adjusting the carrier mix to improve service while controlling inflationary impact. * Responsible for driving productivity for all businesses through recommending lower cost carriers to the management team from the collaborative discussions they field with the carrier based. Responsible for reducing costs where possible in areas such as demurrage, and through adjusted bookings when acceptable to the JM customer. * Act as a liaison between customer service and the plants to continuously improve logistics service (while balancing cost). * Implement the day-to-day Transportation plan. * Maximize cost reduction and service opportunities through leveraging total corporate volume with truckload and less-than-truckload freight carriers * Implement and maintain company policy and standard operating procedures to ensure compliance with the USDOT requirements. * Monitor service level requirements and equipment commitments with motor carriers. * Meet Business Unit on time delivery service requirements.. * Identify, implement and report cost reduction opportunities. * Determine optimal mode between truckload, LTL and intermodal based on delivery requirements. * Maintain good and ethical relationships with carrier/association contacts. * Prepare daily/weekly/monthly reports. * Study possible savings and service improvements through use of new and /or improved carrier equipment, methods, and procedures such as transloading, pooling, or consolidation * Preparation of data for the negotiation of carrier services, equipment, costs, contracts, classifications, and international regulatory requirements * May be required to perform other related duties as assigned. What You Bring to the Table: * Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience * Bachelor's degree required * Intermediate analytical skills to execute sustainable root cause and corrective action plans (intermediate) * Working knowledge and experience in motor carrier transportation (Solid) * Knowledge of a Transportation Management System (Basic) * Solid interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills * Solid customer service skills * Understanding of USDOT requirements (Solid) * Ability to work independently and in a team environment (Solid) * Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook (Expert) * Basic knowledge of SAP or ERP systems * Minimal travel required (0 -- 10 days per year). * Work environment is typical of an office setting. Applicants can expect to make between $51,000 to $70,000 upon hire. Pay within this range will vary based upon relevant experience, skills, and education among other factors. In addition this position is eligible for a target incentive bonus under our variable incentive plan. Benefits Johns Manville (JM) offers a wide range of benefits to employees.
