Position: Operations Research Scientist (Centennial, Colorado)
Duties: Define, design, and develop quantitative models based on operations research theory and chemical engineering principles. Create models focused on energy commodity optimization, including but not limited to refinery operations optimization, network optimization of crude oil and natural gas transport, and forecasting of natural gas demand. Identify, define, design, and develop quantitative models that enhance existing or new software products and services. Use GAMS modeling language, various optimization solvers, and SQL server to create quantitative models that give users unique insights into oil and gas markets. Drive development of crude oil network optimization model, including modeling refinery operations (i.e. feedstock physical properties, blending, and unit flows) together with the midstream network to find optimal network flows and forecast price differentials. Contribute to development of statistical and machine learning models related to daily natural gas demand and production. Work with analyst and developer teams to operationalize and maintain quantitative models.
Requirements: PhD (or a foreign education equivalent) in Chemical Engineering, Engineering, Operations Research, Mathematics, Statistics or a directly related quantitative field and twelve (12) months of education, experience or training in operations research theory including linear, nonlinear, and integer programming. Specific skills/other requirements - Must also possess experience with (quantitative experience requirements not applicable to this section): Crude oil refining process and refinery operations, including how blending and other refinery processes alter the physical properties of hydrocarbons, how refinery units interact, how different factors influence fraction yields; GAMS or AMPL optimization modeling language and familiar with the workings of various solvers such as CONOPT, CPLEX, or others; Developing feasible optimization models and debugging infeasible models when observed; Minimizing required solve time for complex optimization models; and, Gathering, vetting, and analyzing data from various public and private sources.
