Summary of Job Duties

* The City of Aurora will conduct ongoing screenings of applications on a first come-first serve basis. As soon as we determine to have a qualified pool of applicants, this position may close quickly and without notice.*

The approved budgeted salary to start this position is $21.77 - $27.21/hour.

The Full salary range for this position is $21.77 - $34.01

This is classified as VHBE (Variable Hour Benefit Eligible), where the selected candidate will work an average of 40 hours per week. The selected candidate will be eligible to elect Medical Benefits as well as accrue paid time off and receive 10 paid holidays.

The Aurora Police Department is looking for an efficient, customer service driven individual who will be responsible for collecting, storing, and disseminating criminal information and reports to Police personnel and the public.

The Aurora Police Department

The Aurora Police Department is responsible for providing law enforcement services to a growing, urban/suburban community with unique and ever-changing needs. We strongly believe that the challenges facing the police department can only be addressed effectively by connecting with community leaders, school administrators, members of the business community, non-profit organizations, other government agencies, neighborhood groups and most importantly, individual residents. The Police Records Division is a 24/7 operation with Public Safety Records staff working one of the following shifts: Day, Swing, and Graveyard. There is a bidding process once a year to determine the work schedule for the following year.

Despite the changes in Colorado law, the City of Aurora maintains a drug free workplace. A positive test of marijuana is grounds for disqualification and ineligibility for employment with the city for one year or termination once hired.

To be employed by the Aurora Police Department you will need to successfully pass a background check, polygraph test, and fingerprint screening, along with other conditions of employment; drug test and verification of employment. Because of this, there is a longer recruitment process, we thank you in advance for your patience. PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

* Track, distribute, file and scan documents
* Prepare and monitor computer generated reports
* Gather, check, compile and prepare a variety of information for administrative and statistical reports
* Provide information to applicable courts for discovery
* Research and solve report, record, or identification problems
* Maintain, modify, and update information in local, State and National computer systems
* Operate a variety of office machines
* Track work completed for work study purposes
* Perform additional duties as assigned


An equivalent combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.


* High School Diploma or GED. The selected candidate will be required to submit proof, in the form of an official transcript of the highest level of education completed as indicated on their application and/or resume


* One (1) year of general office or clerical experience including data entry and customer service experience

Preferred Experience:

* Two (2) years office or clerical experience to include data entry and customer service
* Experience working in a judicial or law enforcement environment

Licenses and Certifications:

* CCIC/NCIC certification preferred, but also required within 6 months of employment


* Knowledge of office practices and procedures; business English.

Abilities to:

* Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and citizens
* Handle stressful situations with tact and diplomacy
* Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
* Perform complex data entry activities
* Work weekends and holidays
* Day and Swing shift


* Skill in passing a CritiCall Exam, that measures skills in 10 different competencies which include: Data entry, sentence clarity, and multi-tasking.


Essential Personnel:

* When a local announcement of emergency or disaster is declared by the City, all City of Aurora employees may be required to work as essential personnel.

Physical Demands:

* Sedentary to light physical work requiring the ability to lift 10 pounds with or without assistance
* Frequent lifting, carrying, walking and standing
* Hand/eye coordination to operate computer equipment
* Vision to read and interpret reports, documents and other written information
* Frequent speech communication and hearing to maintain communication with employees and citizens
* Memory to retain updated processes, complete tasks that are important but infrequent and highly technical tasks.
* Critical thinking to navigate technical tasks; use resources when unsure and Lead or Supervisor is not available
* Judgment to ensure confidential information remains protected

Work Environment:

* Essential duties performed primarily in clean, comfortable environment with shared workstations and equipment
* Memory to retain updated processes, complete tasks that are important but infrequent and highly technical tasks.
* Critical thinking to navigate technical tasks; use resources when unsure and Lead or Supervisor is not available
* Judgment to ensure confidential information remains protected
* Shifts include days, swings, holidays and weekends

Equipment Used:

* Frequently uses computer keyboard and telephone, fax machines, copiers and microfilm equipment
* This position may require the incumbent to occasionally use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment
