Position Overview

The Senior Director of Human Resources oversees the HR teams that provide shared services on issues related to: HCM (Compensation, Benefits, Compliance, and HRIS), Learning & Development (training, performance management, succession program), and Talent Acquisition (talent planning, attraction, placement, and diversity programs).

This individual will lead the development of department goals and objectives that align with the Human Resources vision: HR builds trusted relationships by creating value. This includes continued development of effective HR teams and optimization of HR programs, policies, processes, and systems to create additional value for the business. This position reports to the Vice President of Human Resources.

Duties and Responsibilities

Human Capital Management

Oversee daily operations concerning compensation, benefits, compliance, and overall HR information system functionality/effectiveness (HRIS).

This will include focus in these areas:

  • Organization's policies, procedures, and practices to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local legislation.
  • Compensation strategies, and oversight of the annual salary planning and bonus programs.
  • Total Rewards and benefit programs to influence performance and retention of employees.
  • Ensuring all employees receive fair, equal, and consistent treatment with respect to company policies and company adherence to FMLA, ADA, FLSA, ACA, Title VII, and other legal regulations.
  • Affirmative Action Programs and adherence with Equal Employment Opportunity requirements.
  • Data driven approach to HR activities that reduce human errors and improve team performance.
  • Metrics, analytics, and KPIs to improve HR execution and decision-making ability.

Learning & Development

Oversee daily operations concerning development, retention, and engagement of company employees.

This will include focus in these areas:

  • Training and development programs; including in-person, self-paced and blended learning.
  • Annual performance review process, preparation, and administration of performance management programs, acting in coordination with compensation schedule.
  • Company succession programs, high potential employee development, and risk/retention.
  • Training services to meet ongoing business objectives, growth, and technology advances.
  • MYR Group Internship program expansion and Intern experience enrichment.
  • Company impact events to socially connect employees throughout the organization.
  • Bi-annual Office Managers conference and best practice sharing between districts.

Talent Acquisition

Oversee daily operations concerning employee talent planning, attraction, placement, and diversity programs across the organization.

This will include focus in these areas:

  • Talent networks, pipelines, and college partnerships.
  • Defined and coordinated diversity (women, minority, veteran, disabled) recruitment programs.
  • Adherence and development of company Affirmative Action Program good faith efforts.
  • Employer branding and social media presence in coordination with Marketing department.
  • Strategic utilization of third-party recruitment agencies and temp services.

General HR Operations:

Oversee daily operations to facilitate excellence in Human Resources department, including customer service execution.

This will include focus in these areas:

  • Continued development of HR professionals to have a high sense of urgency, professionalism, and responsiveness to ongoing needs of the business.
  • Maintain knowledge of industry trends, employment legislation, best practices to keep management informed of new developments, policies, and practices.
  • Work closely with HR leadership to implement appropriate business processes and controls.
  • Ensures adherence to SOX requirements for HR transactions.
  • Understand and comply with the Company's Code of Business Conduct and Ethics and other industry-specific professional and ethical conduct standards, if applicable.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Human Resources or related area.
  • 12+ years of related experience with multi-disciplinary knowledge of HR systems, technology, and processes.
  • 10+ years of progressive leadership experience.
  • Experience and proven success in leading cultural change, examining operations to develop and implement fit for purpose, technology-enabled systems, and processes.
  • Broad HR knowledge and robust understanding of employment laws across the US and Canada.
  • Expertise with vendor selection and management.
  • HRIS leadership experience, including prior software implementation success.
  • Exceptional analytical reasoning and problem-solving capabilities with demonstrated abilities to think creatively and strategically solve and answer key business questions/problems.
  • Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills, with a professional demeanor and the ability to interact with all levels of management, colleagues, and vendors.
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills with the ability to present at the executive level with the capability to examine and project appropriate details.
  • Well organized with the ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage shifting responsibilities in a dynamic, cross-functional teamwork environment.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, excellent verbal and written skills and the ability to multi-task and manage complexity.
  • Ability to adapt to modification and changes to project plans, demonstrating flexibility to implement new strategies and tactics that accommodate these changes.
  • Ability to think systemically and make both strategic and tactical decisions on sensitive, confidential issues.
