Supplier Quality Engineer - Aurora, CO

PURPOSE
Support the goals of KNA Quality by developing and implementing supplier quality activities with a well-defined QMS (Quality Management System) encompassing all aspects of Quality Assurance for purchased parts and vendors.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Validate new suppliers using APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning) methodology
  • Use statistical analysis to identify and eliminate systemic supplier quality issues
  • Lead production staff and quality inspectors to resolve quality issues using 8D style root cause analysis/problem solving methods  Lead activities for Receiving Inspection, working within established Skip Lot Program and promoting efficiency in releasing parts to Production after Quality confirmation is complete
  • Advise on Supplier Quality Agreements for critical vendors in cooperation with the Sourcing Team
  • Manage PCN’s (Product Change Notices) and assist with implementation including parts control, assuring FIFO and buildout
  • Perform supplier process and product audits at vendor location to ensure supplier’s processes are robust and capable
  • Prevent/minimize business impact from supplied material defects; lead supplier quality risk mitigation
  • Participate as an active member in the New Product Development Team for supplier evaluations
  • Assure compliance of the prototype & pre-launch components, materials and services to meet designs and specifications

SUPERVISION RECEIVED
General supervision is received for direction of work, and employee can be expected to work without daily contact from supervisor. Employee plans work and manner of performance to meet defined work plans or objectives within timeframe assigned without supervisor follow up. Routine tasks are performed independently, but unusual or critical circumstances are subject to consultation with supervisor.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED
As assigned for projects but this role has no direct reports. However, this role has potential to become a team lead in the future. Management experience is a plus.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education
Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering field from an accredited college required, with a preference for Electrical Engineering degree or experience.
Six Sigma Black or Green belt preferred.
Experience
5 or more years of Supplier Quality Engineering experience in a manufacturing environment is required. Experience in professional/retail pressure washers and floor care machines is a plus.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrable proficiency in Microsoft Office (Intermediate Excel skills, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Strong communication skills necessary
  • Working knowledge of ERP systems, SAP/SAP Quality Module preferred
  • Knowledge and experience in applying APQP tools
  • Statistical analysis experience/Minitab or other tools
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic and electrical systems & components
  • Strong communication, presentation and team skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Self-motivated with a high level of initiative

COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Ability to read/write data-driven reports, technical reports, and summaries for a variety of audiences. Ability to communicate professionally over the phone/email with other employees and external consultants.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Regularly required to stand, walk and sit, sometimes for long periods. Specific vision abilities include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Able to use a computer for extended periods.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Traditional office / manufacturing / assembly / fabrication / warehouse environments with variations to temperature related to the seasons, with typical warehouse heating and cooling. The work environment includes noise related to manufacturing equipment, fork truck traffic, tool operation, and related activities. Travel required, <20% annually.
