Definition: This non-commissioned civilian position is assigned to Detective Operations. The position provides investigative support to the Detective Staff.
Principal Duties: Register sex offenders and update sex offender tracking records. Instruct others in the use of sex offender data bases, searching and tracking. Liaise with local pawnshop and secondhand dealers while maintaining a positive working relationship between the police department and the dealers. Maintain pawn transaction tracking systems. Investigate and enforce pawn transaction violation cases and enforce state and local laws. Instruct police staff in the use of pawn data bases, searching and tracking. Assist with missing persons investigations. Support Detective staff by providing investigative assistance in case preparation, case follow-up, and case filing. Provide crime prevention and follow-up assistance to crime victims. Perform essential duties and additional tasks in a manner which enhances City Attributes.
Working Environment: Work is performed inside public and private buildings, in outdoor areas, vehicles, and classrooms under routine and stressful conditions. Work requires confidentiality, judgment, and problem solving; driving, reading, verbal, and written communication; sight (near and far vision and ability to distinguish colors), hearing (must be able to hear radio communications in a vehicle), detailed, organized work, and frequent customer contact, occasionally with citizens who are angry, upset, and/or distraught. Work requires infrequent contact with individuals that might pose a threat to the employees’ safety potentially requiring the use of defensive and/or controlling measures using self-defense techniques and/or less lethal weapons. Requires frequent use of fingers and hands, occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 50 lbs.) walking, standing, sitting, bending/stooping, pulling, pushing, reaching, twisting, and squatting. Occasionally may require working varied hours that include evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and irregular or protracted hours including unanticipated overtime and after hours call out. Occasionally may be exposed to bio-hazardous material, blood borne pathogens, and STD’s.
Qualifications: A minimum of two years of experience requiring frequent public contact and the interpretation of rules and regulations. Possess excellent oral and written communications skills. Special Qualifications : Possession of a valid Colorado driver’s license
