Internal Audit is a provider of independent, objective assurance services delivered through a highly competent and diverse team. As a business partner, Audit helps the company accomplish its objectives by bringing a systematic, disciplined approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of risk management, control, and governance processes.

The Innovation team has an opening for a Data Scientist/Analytic Consultant 5 (AC5). The Data Scientist/AC5 will be part of the Advanced Analytics & Innovation Excellence team and be responsible for working with audit teams to drive innovation in audit execution. This position includes supporting the development, implementation, and execution of advanced analytic capabilities for the Innovation team and deployment to the audit teams. We are looking for a candidate with the proven ability to utilize Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning techniques and tools to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the audit process. This includes partnering with internal auditors to identify opportunities and deliver solutions in evaluating the adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls on a continuous basis, to provide data-driven risk assessments, and automate manual processes within the audit life-cycle.

Specifically, a successful candidate will:

  • Think creatively and identify opportunities to leverage machine learning to improve Internal Audit capabilities
  • Translate and summarize complex analysis into understandable, actionable insights and recommendations that directly drive effective business strategy
  • Retrieve, combine, and transform data from numerous information systems
  • Develop advanced approaches and modeling techniques to extract useful information from both unstructured and structured data
  • Work effectively in a team environment, as well as independently, to deliver against key business initiatives
  • Take initiatives and drive each project to completion with minimal guidance 
  • Standing up cutting-edge analytical capabilities, leveraging automation, cognitive and science-based techniques to manage data and models, and drive operational efficiency by offering continuous insights and improvements.
  • Help in design and implementation of algorithms and tools for analytics and data scientist teams.
  • Use a variety of languages, tools and frameworks to marry data and systems together.
  • Lead data-specific projects and work along with 1-3 other advanced analytics professionals;
  • Be results driven, detail-oriented, demonstrate strategic thinking and creativity;
  • Be capable of initiating action and managing change in a fast paced environment;
  • Have strong relationship management, influencing, organizational and execution skills; communicate effectively and ensure that all deliverables are met;

The salary range displayed below is based on a Full-time 40 hour a week schedule.
Salary range is determined by the location of the job.

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in one or a combination of the following: reporting, analytics, or modeling demonstrated through work or military experience; or a Masters degree or higher in a quantitative field such as applied math, statistics, engineering, physics, accounting, finance, economics, econometrics, computer sciences, or business/social and behavioral sciences with a quantitative emphasis and 5+ years of experience in one or a combination of the following: reporting, analytics, or modeling
  • 2+ years of Python experience
  • 2+ years of SQL experience

  • Ability to develop operational reporting and performing complex data analysis
  • Ability to lead projects/initiatives with high risk and complexity
  • Ability to provide leadership by coaching, training, and mentoring

  • Certifications in analytics space:
    • SAS Certified Big Data Professional
    • SAS Certified Data Scientist
    • Certification of Professional Achievement in Data Sciences
    • Certified Analytics Professional
    • Data Mining and Applications Graduate Certificate (university specific)
  • Knowledge of Wells Fargo businesses, systems of record, and data warehouses.
  • Natural Language Processing (NLP) & Text Analytics development and modeling experience
  • Ability to process structured & unstructured data and apply machine learning algorithms & AI to solve key business problems.
  • Experience developing machine learning models
  • SQL & SAS experience
  • Expertise gathering, analyzing, and interpreting large datasets
  • Algorithmic development experience
  • Experience navigating model governance requirements in a highly regulated environment
  • Ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines, achieve goals, and work under pressure in a dynamic and complex environment

  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time
