Your Opportunity

Stantec is seeking an Environmental Scientist with 1 to 5 years of experience to support projects in the intermountain west. In this position you will work with close guidance and supervision on tasks and smaller projects, and as a team member of larger projects under the guidance of a senior scientist/engineer. This position interacts throughout the organization internally and externally with clients and members of business and professional organizations.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Keep yourself and others safe: Understand and follow safe work practices, policies, and procedures for Health, Safety, Security, and the Environment (HSSE) including client-specific training (as required) for planning and executing work in a safe manner.

  • Assistant project management: Assist senior-level personnel with project coordination, proposals, and invoicing.

  • Technical writing and editing: Organize, coordinate, write and/or tech edit assigned sections of various deliverables such as work plans, site investigation reports, remedial investigations, feasibility studies, closure reports, and permit applications.

  • Information management: Compile, analyze, and display field-collected data and publicly available data for use in project deliverables. Using tools such as MS Excel, Autodesk CAD, ESRI ArcGIS.

  • Field work: Organize and conduct field investigations and related activities as directed by a senior scientist or engineer involving borehole logging, well installation, environmental monitoring, data collection (i.e., aquifer testing, and soil, groundwater, surface water, and soil gas sampling), site inspections, health and safety audits, agency inspections, and oversight of subcontractors during implementation of field investigations, and operation, maintenance, and monitoring of remediation systems. Assist with onsite construction observation, contractor coordination, and daily inspection reports. Field work may include exposure to the elements, inclement weather and remote locations. Collect field data using Trimble and ArcOnline tools.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Strong technical writing, organizational, and oral communication skills.

  • Careful attention to detail.

  • Dynamic time management to meet project budget and schedule.

  • Ability to work both independently and in a project team setting and engage in creative and critical thought.

  • Ability to liaise between clients, contractors, and third parties on-site.

  • Ability to communicate in a professional and positive manner, both in writing and in person, with clients, employees, and visitors.

  • Willingness to travel.

  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training certificate and/or MSHA certification is preferred or the ability to obtain after employment.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

  • Must have a good driving record and valid Driver's License.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelors degree in environmental science, geology, or related field.

  • 2 to 5 years of experience in environmental science field preferred.
