The Lead Infrastructure Manager supervises professional level employees and manages the installation, configuration, and maintenance of IT systems software and hardware for multi-user server computers. This job meets end user needs by confirming that uptime, performance, resource availability, and security of computers are within established operational guidelines.
Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Supervises team members responsible for the acquisition, installation, and any upgraded computer components and software and planning for service outages and other problems.
  • Approves automation of routine tasks using scripting and writing basic computer programs to address more complex systems software configuration and enhancement.
  • Identifies and monitors best practices for technology architecture, while providing expert advice on core infrastructure initiatives.
  • Communicates project, operational, and strategy risks and opportunities to senior management, along with corrective action plans when required.
  • Publishes metrics to qualify and quantify configuration success, and ensures that configuration practices are in compliance with standards.
  • Ensures successful delivery on all project and operational commitments, including quality and timeliness metrics.
  • Manages performance of team through regular, timely feedback as well as the formal performance review process to ensure delivery of exceptional products and engagement, motivation, and development of team.
  • Develops team members through reasonable, effective performance development plans, technical training opportunities and stretch work assignments.

Currently, TIAA has an opportunity for a Lead Infrastructure Manager – Capacity Management. This role will manage the company’s capacity plans and technology roadmaps in addition to providing third level support for core hardware, software, data and infrastructure components related to the efficient use of technology resources.

This role will support the organization goals to strengthen platforms and drive operational excellence in alignment with the TIAA enterprise business and technology strategy. More specifically, this role will focus on leading and implementing capacity management service improvements with the goal of meeting regulator and compliance requirements, optimizing cost, ensuring there is capacity to meet demand, and improving production stability through the reduction of major incidents related to performance and capacity issues. This role can be located at one of our major hubs: Charlotte, NC, Iselin, NJ, New York, NY, Jacksonville, FL, Chicago, IL, Broomfield, CO, Denver, CO or Dallas, TX.


  • Manage and maintain the virtual and physical capacity of TIAA for infrastructure and enterprises services
  • Work with service and application owners to understand present and future business volumes and capacity requirements
  • Create, maintain and review Capacity Plans with lines of business for key applications
  • Work with platform teams to forecast hardware purchasing needs
  • Maintain and improve capacity management dashboards, reporting, and metrics
  • Use proprietary and vendor tools to manage VMware capacity
  • Provide 3rd level analysis of critical infrastructure performance issues
  • Identify areas for optimization and formulate remediation plans


Required Experience

  • Minimum of five (5) years in any combination of leadership roles in capacity management, infrastructure engineering, monitoring and/or systems administration experience
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience using data analytics and data visualization tools
  • Strong ability to design and write complex SQL queries
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience with ITIL Capacity Management principles
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience with virtualization and containerization technology
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience with monitoring and performance management
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience leading or working with infrastructure engineering, application development and operations teams

Desired Experience

  • Strong data manipulation skills; ability to transform data into useable information
  • Network capacity management experience
  • Experience working with ServiceNow platform
  • Experience with Amazon AWS
  • Experience with Tableau, Splunk and VMware vRealize Operations platforms
  • Very strong analytical thinker
  • Ability to work across organization structures
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Platform focus areas include ESX infrastructure components, container infrastructure, public and private cloud, PaaS solutions and middleware hosting. Component focus areas will include server, network, database, storage, and middleware.

Potential Salary: $147,525.00 USD

Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business sector, and geographic location. In addition to base salary, the competitive compensation package may include, depending on the role, participation in an incentive program linked to performance (for example, annual discretionary incentive programs, non-annual sales incentive plans, or other non-annual incentive plans).
