Position Overview

Kiewit Infrastructure Engineering (KIE) has an immediate opening for a dynamic Pavement Engineer in our growing Design Engineering Services (DES) and Construction Engineering Services (CES) Groups based in Lone Tree, Colorado. Unique to this position are CES tasks that involve on-site pavement mixture production process control and quality assurance oversight. You will be part of our rapidly growing Infrastructure Design Department, which includes structural, geotechnical, civil, drainage, roadway, rail, and materials disciplines, is a multi-faceted and leading-edge division of Kiewit with best-in-class technical expertise focused on the Design-Build/Alternative delivery of infrastructure projects.

Typical project deliverables include design reports, memorandums, and letters. These deliverables provide technical analysis, technical interpretations, and professional recommendations; all these project deliverables are subject to KIE's Design Quality Management Plan.

The Mid-Level Pavement Engineer must be capable of working independently to progress toward scheduled deliverable dates. The successful candidate must also possess strong time-management skills and the ability to delegate and direct work to junior staff members (including seasonal interns and rotational staff). The ability to manage and/or perform multiple tasks on numerous projects is required.

Pavement Engineering is a specialty engineering service that has high visibility with Project and district management; professionalism is always expected. Continued job-related learning (Kiewit University, Professional Engineer Continued Education, personal professional development) is encouraged and expected.

This role will be based out of Kiewit's Lone Tree, Colorado (South Denver area) office.


* Supervise, mentor and evaluate junior staff,
* Perform pavement design (e.g., AASHTO '93, MEPDG),
* Evaluate pavement materials (Asphalt, Concrete, Base Courses, Subgrades),
* Conduct pavement forensics/research regarding pavement performance,
* Develop pavement construction specifications
* Interpret pavement materials quality/process control data
* Proportion and review pavement mixes
* Interpret/learn/apply client-specific design methodologies, specifications, and standards
* Analysis of pavement profile, falling weight deflectometer, ground penetrating radar, and pavement friction testing equipment desired,
* Lead interdisciplinary design coordination to ensure that project elements are compatible,
* Oversee/create preliminary design concepts and alternatives for highways and civil features to support cost estimating,
* Develop project communications and technical meetings, provide coordination to resolve design issues,
* Lead quality control reviews, comment resolution meetings, and verify corrections are completed,
* Lead project level meetings,
* Interface with project stakeholders as needed.
* This position includes travel to project offices and work sites as needed up to 50%


* Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or related field
* Master's degree with emphasis on pavements or transportation materials preferred
* Registered as a Professional Engineer
* Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing
* High Emotional Intelligence
* 7+ years of civil/highway and/or pavement design experience
* Experience performing field responsibilities in traffic-controlled work zones and/or construction sites
* Experience leading and mentoring junior staff
* Experience developing reports and construction specifications for transportation projects
* Working knowledge of Autodesk and/or Bentley CAD platforms preferred
* Experience leading design teams is preferred
* Familiarity with design-build/alternative delivery is preferred

Base Compensation: $98,500 - $129,300

(Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
