Job Description

The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), located at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in Golden, Colorado is the nation's primary laboratory for research and development of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies.

A postdoctoral position is available in NREL's Chemistry and Nanoscience Center in the area of design, synthesis, and characterization of inorganic-organic hybrid perovskites related to large area tandem device development for solar energy applications. The initial appointment is for one year, with possible renewal up to three years.

This position will focus on perovskite-based photovoltaic technology research and development. Day to day duties include: (1) fabrication of thin-film perovskite solar cells for tandem device applications (e.g., perovskite/Si tandems); (2) scalable deposition (e.g., blade coating and slot-die coating) of large area perovskite solar cells and modules; (3) development of charge contact layers for improved device performance and stability; and (4) basic material/device characterization and modeling.

The candidate will interact with a larger group effort covering tandem integration and modeling, module fabrication, reliability characterization, and fundamental studies on scientific underpinnings of perovskite materials and devices.

Basic Qualifications

Must be a recent PhD graduate within the last three years. Must have extensive track record of processing, measurement, characterization, modeling and working knowledge of the latest developments with Perovskite photovoltaic solar cells. Candidate will work on industrial and applied programs to advance perovskite cell efficiency and stability in projects with critical short term goals.

Additional Required Qualifications

The collaborative environment requires a candidate who has the ability to interface with researchers of different disciplines and to learn topics outside their area of expertise. Candidates will be expected to communicate their results through journal publications, conference and funding agency presentations. In general, candidates should have a demonstrated track record of success in formulating, addressing fundamental/applied science questions and devising solutions to challenging problems as part of a team effort.

Inclusion and diversity are core values, and the candidate will be expected to support a work environment that maximizes the unique talents and innovative ideas of every employee. The candidate will be required to work closely with the Environment, Health, & Safety team to follow safe work procedures, as well as to handle waste properly and keep a clean, well-organized work environment

Preferred Qualifications

Candidates with additional experience in space qualification of PV technology, radiation testing, and large scale perovskite module fabrication will receive extra attention.

Annual Salary Range (based on full-time 40 hours per week)

Job Profile: Postdoctoral Researcher-Materials Science / Annual Salary Range: $69,400 - $114,500
