Your Opportunity

The Senior Project Management & Commercial Leader (S-PMCL) is responsible for driving project performance and commercial outcomes by leading the Project Management & Commercial Leaders (PMCLs) in the Mining, Minerals and Metals Business Line (BL). The S-PMCL will report directly to the BL Discipline Leader with accountability to the Regional Business Leaders (RBLs). The S-PMCL will oversee the PMCLs in the development, training, and leadership of project managers (PMs) to meet BL revenue targets, while delivering high quality, technically excellent projects on time and within budget.

The home office for this role can be in any location in North America where the Mining Business Line has a presence.

Your Key Responsibilities

Project and Commercial Management and Execution

  • Work with the DL to build and improve upon the BL Project Management community, partner with other S-PMCLs (or equivalent) within Energy & Resources and serve as the BL representative to related functional service teams such as Finance and Project Accounting.

  • Drive gross margin (GM) performance, on-time-delivery, and client satisfaction by building a culture of excellence and accountability within the PM community.

  • Review project performance metrics (GM%, leakage, as-delivered vs. as-sold GM%) in each period with PMCLs. The PMCLs in turn review this performance with the PMs. The S-PMCL may also have project discussions with the PMs. As part of this review, ensure projects maintain accurate and timely Estimates to Complete (ETC) and Earned Value (EV) project updates.

  • Provide interpretation of monthly performance figures to support he BL leadership in overall business management.

  • Maximize our Quality Program, in partnership with the Project Delivery Practice Leader and Quality Leader, to provide accurate feedback and develop action plans to utilize the positive results across the BL and to proactively address the opportunities for improvement.

  • Coordinate with PMCLs to establish and implement corrective actions for distressed projects, resolve or improve issues which may be impacting a BCs ability to meet or exceed targets and apply solutions to address unusual problem situations.

  • Reduce project write-offs through proactive identification and resolution; support client negotiations as required.

  • Support regional and BC leadership with obtaining project management resources and key skills to deliver projects.

  • Evaluate project management compliance with Stantec risk management practices and procedures and support PMCLs and project teams in developing risk profiles and registers for projects and preparing for risk reviews.

  • Support the PMCLs and assist in achieving commercial outcomes; review and analyze proposal and project pricing, scopes, schedules, budgets, and execution plans. Ensure plans are fit-for-purpose and aligned with business objectives and pricing strategies.

  • Support the PMCLs with onboarding and ongoing training of PMs.

Client Focus

  • Conduct or assist in completion of client relationship or project satisfaction surveys, as identified in the BOU and BL plan.

  • Participate in rate and contract negotiations with strategic clients during contract renewals or during the pursuit phase, as required.

People Leadership

  • Develop a team of high performers though coaching and mentoring of PMs, PIRs, and PMCLs; provide regular recognition of good performance.

  • In collaboration with PMCLs, recruit, retain, mentor, and promote growth opportunities for those in the project management career path.

  • Keep PMCLs informed of operational or leadership changes that affect project delivery by initiating regular communications and contact points.

  • Facilitate the availability of resources to support PMs, PIRs, and PMCLs.

  • Solicit feedback from PM community and regularly communicate that feedback to the business leadership and PDO.

  • Support the BOU in the health and safety performance and culture.

Individual Contributor

  • Achieve utilization target as agreed annually with DL and BL. Initial expectation for utilization in the range of 40-50%.

  • Serve in a project or program leadership role and/or project sponsor on major projects or on key account projects for the BL.

  • Support key pursuits (e.g., evaluation of terms and conditions, commercial risk, and competitive advantage).

  • Meet BL individual role based KPIs for leading indicators and safety training.

  • Maintain and enhance our reputation with clients, approval agencies and industry professionals as an outstanding service provider.

  • Understanding of Stantec financial methodologies, procedures, and policies.

  • Understanding of Stantec Project Management Framework and Project Risk Review Practice.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills to effectively work and collaborate with a wide range of internal and external customers.

  • Ability to drive change and deliver positive impact through influence.

  • Ability to travel to US, Canadian and Global offices and client sites, as required.

  • Familiarity with Stantec Mining, Minerals and Metals BL service offerings and client base is preferred.

Education and Experience

A minimum of ten years of experience successfully managing large projects with experience managing at least four successful projects over $1M in consulting fees.

  • Hiring Salary Range: $164,700 - $231,000 Colorado locations only. The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. This position is bonus eligible.
