COVID VACCINATION NOTICE: Under the COVID-19 mandate issued by the Denver Department of Public Health and Environment on August 2, 2021, current MHCD personnel must be fully vaccinated, or be approved for exemption, no later than September 30, 2021. “Fully vaccinated” means two weeks (14 days) after receiving the final dose of vaccine. The “final dose” is the second dose of a two-dose vaccine (Pfizer or Moderna) or the single dose of a one dose vaccine (J&J).

Starting Salary:

Vocational Counselor I (Bachelors) - $19.01/hr - $22.81/hr

Vocational Counselor II (Masters) - $22.00/hr - $26.42/hr

POSITION SUMMARY: 2Succeed in Education is a psychiatric rehabilitation and supported education program that promotes overall wellness and supports adults in their recovery from mental illness. The ideal candidate will have a working understanding of Psychiatric Rehabilitation philosophy and rehabilitation counseling skills; experience working collaboratively as part of a therapeutic treatment team to support people in recovery; and strong computer skills for required documentation and assisting people we serve. Responsibilities for this position include supporting people who want community based vocational training and/or higher education, facilitating education and skills training classes, orientating new program participants to services and coordinating social activities.  

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist individuals with setting short and long-term goals. Create and update 6 month treatment plans.
  • Outreach and maintain a caseload of individuals engaged in services.
  • Complete timely data, reports and clinical documentation as required.
  • Coordinate care between the rehabilitation department and the clinical team.
  • Facilitate orientations for new program participants.
  • Facilitate social activities and special events within the community and the program.
  • Support individuals with educational opportunities and trainings within the program and community.
  • Facilitate services both in person and virtually.
  • Maintain the monthly newsletter, class list and 2Succeed dashboard
  • Collaborate with individuals we serve to encourage engagement and support recovery.
  • Effectively provide crisis intervention and de-escalation if needed.
  • Collaborative with co-workers to oversee the day to day operations of the program.
  • Maintain a trauma informed environment of wellbeing.
  • Perform duties as assigned.

Requirements: Education/Experience:          

Vocational Counselor I

  • Bachelor degree in rehabilitation or related field; and,
  • One year of experience in a vocational rehabilitation setting or experience with specific duties of this position is preferred.

Vocational Counselor II

  • Masters degree in vocational rehabilitation or related field; with one year of experience in a vocational rehabilitation setting or experience with specific duties of this position is preferred.
  • Or, Bachelors degree in rehabilitation or related field and three years vocational experience, or experience related to specific job duties.

CertificationsCertified Psychiatric Rehabilitation Practitioner or willingness to obtain certification within one year.

 

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:  

  • Knowledge or ability to learn and practice trauma informed principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of community resources.
  • Ability to assess crisis situations and intervene appropriately using de-escalation techniques.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to give, receive and analyze information, formulate work plans, maintain confidentiality, prepare written materials, and articulate goals and action plans.
  • Must understand people from all walks of life and be able to communicate effectively with them.
  • Must have a clear understanding of HIPAA, confidentiality, personal boundaries and be self-assured in a variety of situations.
  • Someone who is energetic, with a positive and creative attitude is necessary.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:   None   

MACHINES AND EQUIPMENT TO BE USED:  Computers, calculators, fax machines, copiers, telephone and a variety of other office/clerical equipment.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires sitting, standing, bending and reaching.  May require lifting up to 50 pounds.   Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office machines such as computers, fax machines, the telephone and other office and/or clinical equipment. 

WORKING CONDITIONS:  May require occasional evening or weekend hours. Working environment includes a combination of being on-site, in the community and remote.
